Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Sierra Leone 48 years ago, the bilateral relations have been constantly strengthened and enhanced featuring friendliness, sincerity, equality and mutual support. In December 2016, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. In September 2018, H.E. President Xi Jinping met with H.E. President Julius Maada Bio, who paid a state visit to China and attended the Beijing Summit of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The two leaders drew up a blueprint for the future development of China-Sierra Leone relations, ushering in a new period for bilateral relationship.
