About Sierra Leone PEN
Sierra Leone PEN was established to reinvigorate the diminished writing community after the civil war and encourage those writers who remained to play an active role in society. It now has a large school clubs programme, which focuses on encouraging reading and writing amongst young people. It also recently launched a short story competition. The Centre plays a national role in Sierra Leone and is invited to national conferences as one of the main organisations dealing with education and freedom of expression.
